Welcome to the Cowboys-Giants Gameday Running Blog! I came up with a pretty good format last season, and I’m sticking with it this season. I will be posting at regular intervals. There will be a pregame post with my thoughts running up to the game, followed by updates after each quarter in which I’ll tally up some stats and post them along with my thoughts. Let’s get started after the jump! Continue reading »

It is officially less than 3 hours until the Dallas Cowboys kick off their 2009 season in Tampa Bay. I can only say that I am giddy with excitement. It won’t take many bonehead plays from Romolicious to temper that excitement, but until those plays rip out my stomach through my a-hole, I’ll be lucky not to pee my pants I’m so frickin’ excited. Watching the first team play in preseason (I know, preseason) gave me reason to be hopeful about the coming season, after wondering all offseason if they could recover from last year without a major coaching change.
FYI, I will be doing a live blog for this game, starting a bit before kickoff.
So strap on yer jammypacks, boys, ’cause it’s about to begin…

Is Andy Reid a Genius?

This pains me to say, but I have to admit that Andy Reid might just be a genius. I figured out why he signed Mike Vick, and it isn’t to groom a new starter. The coach has figured out Donovan McNabb. He started to figure him out a few years ago.
McNabb had been injured a lot for a couple years, so the Eagles drafted Kevin Kolb in the second round of the 2007 draft. Result? Donovan McNabb gets pissed off and has a good year. In 2008, Reid still hadn’t figured out the connection, but then after the team started faltering, he benched McNabb hoping to light a fire under him like the drafting of Kolb had done. Result? It worked and the Eagles went deep into the playoffs with a pissed off McNabb in the lead.
Reid thinks that this might be his last chance to take this team to the championship, so he’s going all in. He thinks McNabb is the guy to win the big game for them, but he has figured out that his QB needs MOTIVATION! Now, with his QB’s own blessing, Andy Reid has figured out how to keep McNabb motivated throughout the entire season! He now has a (some say) top-shelf quarterback nipping at his heels at every step, every bad pass, every sack, every interception. And just to up the ante a little more, Reid is driving the point home by inserting Vick into the game to “interrupt” McNabb’s flow. Donovan McNabb is surely feeling the pressure like he has never felt it before. Result? We’ll have to wait and see….

Head Coach Wade Phillips
Coach Cupcake got his tough on today at the opening press conference of the Cowboys’ 2009 training camp, pounding his fist on the table and loosely quoting from his favorite song, Chumbawumba’s “Tubthumper”.
Via DMN
Once he finally got his turn on the microphone, he made his point clear with a fist-pound to the podium as he said, “We’re ready. We might have been knocked down, but we’ve got to get back up fighting.”
It almost appeared as if Phillips has been waiting for months now to say those words. And why wouldn’t he? It’s been a rather long and grueling off-season. He promised there would be changes and there certainly have been.
There is, of course, a lot more to the story, and it comes from a great article by Nick Eatman. I suggest you all go read it immediately. Meanwhile, enjoy….
