Plaxico Burress left court without entering a plea today. Burress’ lawyer had indicated that the Giants receiver would plead guilty to weapons charges stemming from Burress accidentally shooting himself in the leg at a New York nightclub. Burress’ bail was set at $100,000, and he must return to court at the end of March.
As a human being, I don’t take any pleasure in other peoples’ misfortune. As a Cowboys fan, I’m giggling like a preteen girl backstage with the Jonas Bros. Not that it really helps the ‘Boys, seeing as the Giants have won every game they have played without Burress this season, but at some level I enjoy seeing the “top dog” in the division/conference/league being taken down a notch.
The more interesting development, if you ask me, is Antonio Pierce, who is also being investigated in connection with the incident. Pierce is central to the Giants’ defense. Best-case-scenario is that Pierce is suspended for the game against the Cowboys on Sunday Night Football in week 15. That would make a Cowboys victory much more likely.
