Cowboys OT Marc Colombo
OT Marc Colombo has reportedly signed an extension with the Dallas Cowboys that will keep him in the team through 2012. The deal is worth $22 million with $11.5 million of that guaranteed. Colombo’s signing means that the entire Cowboys offensive line will be intact for a couple more years at least. The next contract coming up for renewal is LG Kyle Kosier, and that’s not until 2010.
Colombo has been an important piece of the Cowboys puzzle, becoming a great leader on the line and in the locker room. However, I still can’t get the image out of my mind of the safety in week 15 against the Giants. There was something off about the snap-count and it didn’t look like anyone was ready for it. When the ball was snapped, most of the line went with it, but Colombo was still just squatting there, looking around in confusion as Giants players whizzed past him on their way to molest Tony Romo in the end zone. I’ve been trying to find footage of it, but no luck. It was pretty funny, though, even if it is not at all indicative of Colombo’s level of play. He very well may have been the only person who was NOT fooled by the snap count, and he just assumed that all the Giants players would be penalized for encroachment, or maybe he assumed that False Start Flozell had done his thing again. I’ll keep trying to find that footage, and if I do I’ll post it here. If anyone out there knows where I can get a video of that play, either post it in the comments or hit the “Contact” link in the menu above and let me know.
