Ding Dong The Witch Is Dead! Cowboys Cut T.O.

March 5, 2009 Posted by: Dan Horne

So Long, T.O.

So Long, T.O.

I haven’t posted to the site in a few weeks now, mostly because not much was happening in Cowboy-land (at least not anything good). Then, once things started happening again (gag order, dumping Spencer for Kitna (!), etc) the reason I didn’t start posting again was mostly due to inertia. Now, however, comes news that I can’t ignore. While it hasn’t been confirmed by the Cowboys themselves (and really only Jerry can do that now according to his rules), ESPN is reporting that the controversial loudmouth has been released.

As a Cowboys fan, this is both good and bad. It’s bad because we don’t really have anyone who has proven that he can replace T.O. on the field. That problem can be solved. It’s good because the ‘Boys can focus on having a more harmonious locker room in the coming season. Now let me tell you why it’s REALLY good.

For the past 3 years, Cowboys fans have had to face the question from all sides: when will T.O. tear apart the Cowboys like he did the 49ers and Eagles? He’s quite controversial, that’s for sure. It’s good because now we don’t have to face that question anymore. Now we’re just a team trying to win a Super Bowl. We’re no longer the team that has T.O.  The Cowboys may be America’s Team, but for as many fans as they have, they probably have an equivalent number of haters.  EVERYBODY loves to hate on the Cowboys, and T.O. was automatic hate fuel.

For my own part, the past few months, whenever someone asked me the inevitable question (should they cut T.O.?) I would always hem and haw and say the things a Cowboys fan SHOULD say, (T.O.’s not really the problem). Deep down, though, I thought to myself “Damn I wish I didn’t have to answer this question because YES THEY NEED TO CUT HIM, but I can’t say that because it’s what they WANT me to say.”

Frankly, it was fun while it lasted, I’m glad it’s over, don’t let the door hit you on the way out…
