According to the Dallas Morning News’ Cowboys Blog, 6 of the Cowboys’ 12 total draft picks from 2009 either signed or agreed to terms yesterday (July 24th). The players are: Victor Butler, DeAngelo Smith, Manuel Johnson, Stephen Hodge, John Phillips and Mike Mickens.
To me, the most interesting addition of this bunch is Mickens, even though he was only a 7th rounder. From the Cowboys Blog:
Mickens could be the Orlando Scandrick of this draft. A knee injury hurt his draft stock but he did not seem troubled by it during the limited time we saw him in either the rookie mini-camp or vet mini-camp. His 14 picks are a Cincinnati record and he is smooth.
I am one of those guys that thinks that Orlando Scandrick (CB) was a steal in the 2008 draft. Scandrick played head and shoulders above first round pick Mike Jenkins (CB). My own personally held belief is that if Jenkins wasn’t a first round pick, Scandrick would already have the starting job ahead of Jenkins instead of having to compete for it this offseason.
Still unsigned are draft picks Jason Williams and Robert Brewster (3rd rnd.), Stephen McGee and Brandon Williams (4th rnd.), and Mike Hamlin and David Buehler (5th rnd.).
The offseason transaction chart posted yesterday has been updated to include these new signings.
